The Mothers’ Union of St.Mary’s Church Dehiwela is a charitable organization inaugurated in 1984 by late Rev. Fr. Thomas Kuriacose, SJ. With a view of alleviating the hardships face by the poor and marginalized category of people residing in Dehiwela, irrespective of race or religion. This objective paved the way to the establishment of a free Medical Clinic (Marian Clinic) which currently functions four days a week and “Milk Project” where milk powder is distributed weekly free of charge to anemic nursing mothers, anemic children and feeble elderly patients on doctor’s recommendation. The medicines and milk powder are purchased from cash donations and through fund raising projects. At present the Mothers’ Union consists of 14 members.
